Blown-In Attic Insulation

Professional blown-in cellulose and fiberglass insulation installed to R-50 or higher. The most effective upgrade for reducing heat loss and lowering energy bills.

// What Is Blown-In Insulation

THE GOLD STANDARD FOR ATTIC INSULATION

Blown-in insulation is installed using specialized equipment that blows loose-fill cellulose or fiberglass into your attic space. Unlike batt insulation, which comes in pre-cut rolls and leaves gaps around obstructions, blown-in insulation fills every cavity, crack, and irregular space to create a seamless thermal blanket.

This method is faster to install, provides better coverage, and achieves higher R-values per inch than traditional batts. For Metro Vancouver homes, blown-in insulation is the preferred method for both new installations and upgrades.

We use both cellulose (made from recycled paper with fire retardant treatment) and fiberglass blown-in products, selecting the best material based on your attic's specific conditions, existing insulation, and moisture management needs.

UNDERSTANDING R-VALUES

R-12 to R-20
Below Standard

Common in homes built before 1990. Provides minimal thermal resistance and results in significant heat loss.

R-32 to R-40
Moderate

Better than many older homes but still below the recommended level for our climate zone.

R-50
Recommended Minimum

The minimum recommended by Natural Resources Canada for Climate Zone 4. Qualifies for rebates.

R-60
Optimal

Provides the best balance of energy savings and cost. Qualifies for maximum rebates.

WHY BLOWN-IN INSULATION

R-50 TO R-60 PERFORMANCE

We install to the R-values recommended by Natural Resources Canada for our climate zone, ensuring maximum energy savings.

COMPLETE COVERAGE

Blown-in insulation fills every gap, crack, and irregularity in your attic, eliminating the cold spots that batt insulation leaves behind.

FAST INSTALLATION

Most attics are fully insulated in 3-5 hours. Our equipment and experienced crew get the job done quickly with minimal disruption.

REBATE ELIGIBLE

Our installations meet all requirements for BC Hydro, FortisBC, and CleanBC rebate programs. We handle the paperwork.

MOISTURE MANAGEMENT

Proper vapour barriers and ventilation are included with every installation to prevent moisture damage in our wet coastal climate.

VERIFIED R-VALUE

We measure and document the final installed depth and R-value, providing you with verification for rebate applications and peace of mind.

// Save Money

MAXIMIZE YOUR REBATES

Our blown-in insulation installations qualify for BC Hydro (up to $5,500), FortisBC ($0.50-$0.90/sq ft), and CleanBC rebate programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of blown-in insulation do you use?
We primarily use blown-in cellulose and fiberglass insulation. Cellulose is made from recycled paper treated with fire retardants and offers excellent thermal performance (R-3.5 to R-3.7 per inch). Fiberglass blown-in provides R-2.5 to R-3.7 per inch. We recommend the best option based on your attic's specific conditions.
What R-value should my attic have?
For Metro Vancouver (Climate Zone 4), Natural Resources Canada recommends R-50 to R-60 for attic insulation. Most homes built before 2000 have R-12 to R-20, which is far below optimal. Upgrading to R-50+ can reduce heat loss through your attic by 60-80%.
Can blown-in insulation be added on top of existing insulation?
Yes, if your existing insulation is in good condition (dry, not contaminated by pests or mold), we can add blown-in insulation on top to reach the target R-value. If the existing insulation is damaged or contaminated, we recommend removal first.
How much does blown-in insulation cost?
For a typical 1,200-1,500 sq ft attic upgraded to R-50, expect to invest $3,000-$6,000 before rebates. With BC Hydro and FortisBC rebates, many homeowners save $750-$2,000+ off the total. We provide detailed quotes with exact pricing.
How long does blown-in insulation last?
Properly installed blown-in insulation lasts 20-30 years or more. Cellulose insulation is treated to resist fire, pests, and mold. The key to longevity is proper attic ventilation and moisture management, which we include with every installation.
